- The Rise and Fall of Boris Johnson: From Brexit Hero to Partygate Villain
Johnson claimed he was the “victim of a witch-hunt” and accused the committee of being a “kangaroo court” that was determined to find him guilty regardless of the facts.
Johnson led the Conservatives to a landslide victory in 2019 but was forced out by his own party less than three years later over the “partygate” scandal, which involved a series of rule-breaking government parties during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Johnson also launched a scathing attack on his successor, Rishi Sunak, whom he accused of being “a puppet of big business” and "a traitor to the Brexit cause".
Johnson hinted that he might try to return to politics in the future, saying "it is very sad to be leaving Parliament — at least for now".
